The best mountain resorts are generally those that cater to beginners and more advanced skiers whilst offering activities and après-ski scenes for those who don’t want to spend all day on the pistes.
When it comes to recommending resorts, we’re big fans of Megève in France for its boutique, village feel that’s far removed from the titans of the ski scene such as Val d’Isère andMeribel. Courchevel is another favourite for its high-end hotels from the likes of luxury brands Aman and Six Senses, not to mention L’Apogée -to our mind, one of the world’s top ski hotels.
Elsewhere in the Alps, you’ve got showy properties in the billionaires’ playgrounds of Gstaad and Verbier, or cosier hideaways such as Austria’s lovely Hotel Kristiania Lech, whose 29 rooms and suites provide a wonderful, home-from-home appeal.
